Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which was initiated by Congress in 1977. On April 30, 2021, President Biden issued a proclamation recognizing the history and achievements of AAPIs, and how “the American story as we know it would be impossible without [their] strength, contributions, and legacies.”

AAPIs have been in America for generations dating back to the 1800’s. They worked the lands, help build the railroads, labored in the fields, toiled the soil, and fought on battlefields in defense of this great country. AAPIs are an important part of the fabric of America and have contributed to making our diverse nation a leader in the world.

Now is the time to celebrate the stories of AAPI trailblazers that are making history, while paving the way for future generations. East West Bank takes pride in our deep AAPI roots and look forward to helping our clients and communities Reach Further, Together.

Our Story

For nearly 50 years, East West Bank has championed diversity and inclusion and empowered businesses and individuals to reach further.

We opened our doors in 1973 in the heart of Chinatown in Los Angeles, California, as the first federally chartered savings institution focused primarily on serving the financial needs of Asian Americans, who couldn’t get banking services elsewhere. Over the years, this market has grown and flourished, and the Bank has grown and flourished right along with it.

Today, we are a full-service premier bank connecting the world’s two largest economies and have been ranked by Forbes to be among the Best Banks in America since 2010. We have grown to be the largest independent bank headquartered in Southern California, built together with the communities that we’ve been serving from the very beginning.

Community Pillars: We’re Stronger Together

Our clients are true pillars of our communities, and a win for them is a win for all of us! Meet some of the extraordinary AAPI individuals and businesses that East West Bank serves. Join us in celebrating their success and recognizing their meaningful contributions!
